Is Trump Off the Rails?

Back in the White House for round two, Donald Trump is wasting no time making his mark… again.

Since his inauguration on January 20, 2025, he’s been signing executive orders like autographs, with one of his first moves being a national emergency declaration at the Mexican border.

Sound familiar?

Now, the Justice Department has dropped lawsuits against Texas and other states with tough immigration laws, giving border authorities even more power. Arrests are up, deportations are rising, and even visa and green-card holders aren’t safe.

But Trump’s crackdown doesn’t stop at immigration. His administration has turned its sights on marginalized communities, from trans people to low-income Americans. A new federal order mandates that all official documents, passports, visas, you name it : must list only “biological sex,” erasing legal recognition of gender identity. And in a move straight out of a dystopian novel, Trump has shut down the Department of Education, stripping protections for vulnerable students.

Not everyone is rolling over, though. Harvard is taking a stand, expanding financial aid and offering free tuition to students from families earning under $100,000 a year : an attempt to break the cycle where wealth determines access to higher education.

The global ripple effect of Trump’s second term is hard to ignore, especially as his supporters double down. But resistance is growing too. Activists, institutions, and everyday people are pushing back, proving that democracy isn’t dead, at least, not yet.

The question is: How loud can we be?
